Resources

This is a list of resources, links and articles that I've found helpful.

Exchanges
Exchanges are platforms for consumers to buy/sell/exchange various cryptocurrencies.  There are an endless list of exchanges, all offering varying advantages and disadvantages.  We head caution when selecting the right exchange and recommend doing your own due diligence before giving your personal information (and money) to any organization.

Coinsquare - The largest Canadian based cryptocurrency exchange.  Currently one of few exchanges allowing Canadians to deposit and withdraw funds to and from Canadian bank accounts. Coinsquare currently offers three coins for purchase: Bitcoin, Ethereum & Litecoin

Kraken - One of the top exchanges in the world, operated out of.  Kraken currently offers 16 different pairings including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Stellar, Monero

Coinbase - Definitely one of the leaders in this space. Coinbase has taken a slow and steady approach to their expansion, ensuring a platform that is secure and user friendly.  I love their approach to this market, ensuring the products and services they offer are top notch. The only downside is that it's currently not available for Canadian citizens.

Binance - One of the largest exchanges in the world with a plethora of available coins.  Binance is known for offering a huge selection of coins. The platform is fairly user friendly, although many of the coin pairings are done in relation to BTC, making it a little more complex at first glance if you're not accustom to that setup. They also have a great mobile app.

Wallets
Wallets are strongly recommended as a method for storing your cryptocurrencies as they are proven to be more secure than exchanges.  With so many different currencies and technologies, finding a 'one size fits all' wallet is not possible.  Depending on the coins you hold (or plan to hold) you'll likely require multiple wallets to store your coins.  For long term holds, we recommend cold-storage/offline wallets, which offer the highest level of security.

Jaxx - Jaxx is a great online wallet for holding several different coins.  As far as online wallets, they offer great security, multiple levels of encryption and authentication.  They've also incorporated ShapeShift, which allows you to convert from one coin to another, all within the wallet platform (for a fee of course).

MyEtherWallet -

Trezor - The most secure and recommended method for story cryptocurrency is via offline wallets, and Trezor is one of the leaders in this space.  It's a small encrypted thumb drive, that removes the potential for being hacked.  Just be sure to keep it in a safe/secure location.

Top 10 - Coins of Interest

Bitcoin - First generation cryptocurrency for tracking and processing value.  Bitcoin is like the 'Godfather' of cryptocurrency.  They have a lot of positives going for them, including being the pioneer of cryptocurrency with the longest (and arguably the most secure) blockchain.  The operate in a Proof of Work (PoW) environment which has seen significant support, creating a globally supported, self sustaining ecosystem. Their limited coin supply also adds an element of scarcity to their project.

Ethereum - Second generation cryptocurrency which brings value to transactions through smart contracts. Ethereum is what I call a foundational coin, intended to be built upon using smart contracts.  They are currently in a transitional stage, where they are working to make the switch from Proof of Work over to Proof of Stake, expected to take place mid-2019.

QTum - QTUM is an interesting project that attempts to combine security elements from Bitcoin along with the smart contract solution of Ethereum, bundled together in a Proof of Stake environment.  They've assembled a very capable management team and have a promising future in the crypto space. 2019 should be an exciting year for future growth and development.

Ravencoin -

Basic Attention Token - This token is used primarily as part of the Brave web browser to reward user activity as part of a marketing solution. The browser has been developed by the same gentleman who created JavaScript and founded Mozilla (Firefox).

EOS - Proving to be a viable alternative to the Ethereum project. EOS focuses on 'smart transactions' allowing developers to utilize the EOS solution to build upon.
